Patti Smith, die 'Godmother Of Punk'. Rockpoetin. Lebensgefährtin, Muse und Model von Robert Mapplethorpe. Sie selbst sieht sich immer mehr als Lyrikerin und Poetin, denn als Sängerin. Von daher ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass sie immer nur dann ein Rockalbum herausgebracht hat, wenn ihr danach war. Neben den Fotos von Robert Mapplethorpe sind es noch die Bilder von Annie Leibovitz, die Patti Smith bekannt gemacht haben. Natürlich darf nicht das Lied 'Because The Night', ihr Co-Komposition mit Bruce Springsteen, verschwiegen werden. Dieses Lied wurde, auch nach ihren eigenen Angaben, zu ihrem größten kommerziellen Erfolg...ist aber unter den echten Fans bei weitem nicht ihr bestes Lied! Der Gitarrist Fred 'Sonic' Smith wurde ihr Ehemann und 1982 und 1985 Vater ihrer Kinder Jackson und Jesse. Rockmusiker und Sänger wie Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), Bob Dylan und Kurt Cobain zählt sie zu den wichtigen Größen in ihrem Leben.
